TAP Into Transit Week: Find Your Way to TAP In

GRTC News

It’s TAP Into Transit Week!

All week long, GRTC is highlighting the people, projects and connections that keep the region moving and inviting our community to learn a little more about the transit system along the way.

Whether you ride every day, haven’t been on a bus in years or have never tried GRTC before, this is your week to TAP in.

Here’s What’s Happening

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, our team will be at the Downtown Transfer Station talking with riders about GRTC’s new destination sign layouts. Beginning Oct. 18, destination signs will be streamlined to make important information easier to see as your bus approaches, including the route number, direction of travel and key corridors served.

Then on Friday, Oct. 2, TAP Into Transit heads to First Fridays! Look for the TAP Art Bus on Broad Street, featuring reprints of original artwork created by local artists for TAP Into Transit. We’ll be celebrating the artists, the community and the role transit plays in connecting people to Richmond’s arts and culture.

And there’s more happening throughout the week. Follow GRTC on social media as we highlight transit connections, pedestrian safety, the future of transit in the Richmond region and ways everyone can help support Open Access transit.

You don’t need to be an experienced rider to give transit a try.

1. Plan your trip.
Use the Transit app or GRTC’s maps and schedules to find the route that gets you where you need to go.

2. Find your stop.
GRTC buses pick up passengers at designated bus stops, while the Pulse serves designated Pulse stations. Plan to arrive about five minutes before your scheduled departure.

3. Check your bus.
Before boarding, look at the destination sign to confirm the route number and direction of travel. Beginning Oct. 18, GRTC’s updated destination signs will make that information even easier to see.

4. Hop on.
Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before boarding. GRTC operates an Open Access system, so there’s no fare required to ride.

5. Know when to get off.
Keep an eye on the onboard real-time information screens. As you approach your stop, pull the yellow cord or press the stop button. You’ll hear and see “Stop Requested” to let you know your request has been received.

6. Keep going.
Walk to your destination, connect to another GRTC route or the Pulse, or use LINK Microtransit where available. One trip can connect you to destinations across the Richmond region.
