GRTC Launches Biggest Fundraising Push Yet to Keep Buses Free for Riders

RICHMOND, VA — GRTC is launching its largest fundraising effort yet to keep public transit free for the Richmond region. TAP Into Transit Week, October 20 – 24, is a community-wide call to action to support GRTC’s Transit Access Partnership (TAP), the program that helps sustain Zero Fare.

Zero Fare costs about $6.8 million annually to operate. Through TAP, GRTC is working to raise $2 million in community support, with a goal of $100,000 during this campaign.

The biggest moment of the week will be “Give Day” on Tuesday, October 21 when riders, local businesses, and community members are encouraged to donate at rideGRTC.com/TAP.

In addition to donating, GRTC is encouraging everyone to get involved in other ways:

  • Take the TAP Challenge: Replace one trip you’d normally drive with a bus ride.
  • Tell a friend: Help spread the word about TAP and Zero  Fare.
  • Adopt a stop or volunteer: Get involved with  community projects that make our system stronger.

“Zero Fare has been a lifeline for thousands of riders across the region,” said Sheryl Adams, GRTC Chief Executive Officer. “Every dollar raised through TAP helps ensure that people can continue to rely on safe, accessible, and equitable transportation.”
