Local Service
GRTC has more than 1,600 bus stops in its system where customers can connect with local and express options. Many routes service the Downtown Transfer Station, a central hub in the heart of Richmond.
The entire GRTC fleet is equipped with low-floor entry and wheelchair lifts and bus operators can provide help to seniors and persons with disabilities who need extra assistance on our fixed-route services.
To make transit easier for bicyclists, all GRTC buses are equipped with easy to use front-mounted bicycle racks so cyclists can load their bicycle onto a bus and catch a ride.
Express Service
GRTC’s Express Routes operate on weekdays to transport commuters to and from work quickly, while helping to minimize congestion. More than 230,000 passengers save themselves thousands of dollars a year by opting out of stop-and-go traffic, toll-booths, and parking garages. By using GRTC Express Routes, you’ll get a stress-free commute and save money on parking and gas expenses.
All express passengers must take a seat. No standing is permitted on any express route.
GRTC offers convenient and free Park ‘N Ride lots that run along Express service routes to the downtown Business District. All Park ‘N Ride lots are safe, well-lit, and easily accessible. Hop from your car to work, without wearing out yourself or your car!
Downtown Transfer Station

The Downtown Transfer Station opened to passengers in September 2023, launching a new era of passenger amenities for Richmond Region transit riders. With real-time destination boards, powered shelters, public Wi-Fi, and a variety of seating options, it has never been easier or more comfortable to catch your GRTC bus.
Funded through local, state, and federal resources, the station is GRTC’s first dedicated off-street downtown transfer hub. Its completion was made possible through the support of the City of Richmond Office of Equitable Transit & Mobility, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and many other valued partners committed to improving public transit.
