Join us as we celebrate Open Access Transit!

TAP into Transit Day engages riders and community members to celebrate the progress our region has made in Open Access Transit.

Open Access Transit means everyone can ride—no fare, no barriers, no confusion.

This community-driven event will bring together regional leaders, local partners, and GRTC riders to spotlight the impact of public transportation across the region.

What is TAP?

The Transit Access Partnership (TAP) is a regional initiative led by GRTC to ensure long-term support for Open Access Transit in Central Virginia.

Tax-deductible donations can be made through RideFinders, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with GRTC. All contributions go directly toward supporting open access to public transportation.

Increased Ridership Helps Us Improve Service

Every ride you take on GRTC Pulse, local or express buses, and LINK Microtransit helps strengthen our system. More riders mean more funding opportunities and a stronger case to expand and improve service for everyone.

Encourage colleagues, friends, and neighbors to try transit, even for one day.

Stay Informed, Give Feedback, or Care for Your Local Stop

You can also adopt a bus stop through RVA Rapid Transit’s Better Bus Stop Program which allows civic associations, organizations, and individuals to help keep stops clean and welcoming.

Together We Can Maintain Open Access

GRTC needs $6.8 million each year to sustain service without charging a fare. The Transit Access Partnership (TAP) aims to contribute $2 million each year, starting with an initial fundraising goal of $50,000.

Transit Access Partnership

A regional initiative led by GRTC to ensure long-term support for Open Access Transit in Central Virginia, TAP brings together public, private, and nonprofit partners around a shared mission: to expand access to opportunity by keeping transit open, simple, and accessible for everyone.

Advertising Program

One hundred percent of the proceeds from advertising goes to Open Access Transit. GRTC’s advertising program has a far-reaching impact to broad audiences. The mobility of transit vehicles allows for extensive geographical coverage and exposure to individuals on and off transit vehicles. Transit bus stops span the region and have exposure to riders and non-riders.

Community Partners

Our community partners help support the Transit Access Partnership, allowing GRTC to offer Open Access Transit that benefits the community and contributes to growing the economy. GRTC deeply appreciates their commitment to our mission and our riders. With their support, GRTC can continue to improve rider mobility and equality for the Richmond Region.
