Snow Route Detour Maps
The snow route detours have been evaluated and updated for 2026. See maps below. Please note that additional detours may also be necessary, as conditions warrant.

Inclement Weather Updates
GRTC is staffed to provide frequent, real-time customer alerts through this webpage, the Bus Tracker, by text (22827) and via Twitter @GRTCtransit.
Up-to-date information about service is available from Customer Service, at (804) 358-GRTC (4782) Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 7:00 pm, and Saturday & Sunday, 8:30 am – 6:00 pm.
Take Care During Slippery Conditions! Please use extreme caution when entering and exiting all vehicles during conditions of snow and ice. If a bus stop or station is too slippery or inaccessible, find the nearest safe place to wait and to board the bus. Vehicles may not be able to pull up properly to the normal boarding area due to snow blocking the curb, and you may need to board from the street.
Bus Service During Inclement Weather
GRTC buses may follow alternate routes, called ‘snow routes,’ to avoid hazardous streets around the system that have historically proven to be challenging to navigate in inclement winter weather. Snow routes generally follow high priority roads for plowing. Additional detours may also be necessary, as conditions warrant.
Once the decision has been made to implement snow routes, buses will display an alert message on the electronic exterior signs, saying, “SNOW ROUTES IN EFFECT,” to notify customers immediately. Customers should expect delays as it is unlikely GRTC will be able to follow regular schedules.
During snow routes service, the Pulse serves all stops but may switch from center stations to curbside pickup if the center lanes are icy.
Which stops are in service during snow routes?
Snow routes are a set of planned detours. Please note that during inclement weather events, additional detours may be made depending on the specific conditions on different routes. To confirm if your stop is being serviced, call Customer Service at (804) 358-GRTC (4782).
CARE and CARE On-Demand Inclement Weather Response
CARE and CARE On-Demand services will operate unless otherwise announced, but detours may also be necessary, as conditions warrant. CARE customers may need to meet the vehicle at a spot close to the pickup/drop off location if the vehicle cannot safely maneuver on the street/driveway/parking lot. Also, door-to-door service will not be performed if the sidewalk and walkway have not been cleared.
LINK Microtransit Inclement Weather Response
LINK services will operate on regular hours unless otherwise announced, but road conditions may require detours. Riders may need to meet the vehicle at a spot close to the pickup/drop off location if the vehicle cannot safely maneuver.
Service may be suspended in individual zones such as Powhatan depending on road conditions.
