GRTC Transit System is a century-old, non-profit organization with a very progressive attitude. With improvements and additions like expanded services for the elderly and disabled, welfare-to-work transportation, vanpool and carpool development, regional taxicab oversight, the University Pass Program for VCU students and employees, and expanded service to surrounding counties and cities, GRTC Transit System has truly become a world class transportation system serving every sector of the Richmond region, and is considered one of the most efficient transit systems in the United States.


GRTC Transit System operates under the direction of its Chief Executive Officer, John M. Lewis, Jr., and Chief Operating Officer, Eldridge Coles. Please click here to read a letter from GRTC Transit System CEO John M. Lewis.

The GRTC Transit System Board of Directors consists of six members – three appointed by the City Council of Richmond and three by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors. The GRTC Board of Directors Members are as follows:

Linda G. Broady-Meyers , Board President/Chairman (City of Richmond)
Daniel K. Smith, Board Vice-Chairman (Chesterfield County)
James M. Johnson , Board Secretary/Treasurer (City of Richmond)
Sheila Hill-Christian, Director (City of Richmond)
David W. Mathews, Director (Chesterfield County)
Gary Armstrong, Director ( Chesterfield County )

The Board of Directors meets at 8:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at GRTC Corporate Headquarters.
